My teacher in high school told me more than once I am a visual kid. Then, I did not pay attention to anything a teacher would tell me. What followed was a 40-year dance in and out of a career in music. I guess having spent 20 years with Blue Man Group, my visual muscle was somewhat engaged as the band would wear make up and perform with visuals in mind.

Today marks the second time in my life that I’ve seriously engaged with anything you can draw or paint with—anything that leaves a mark.

I can’t say artists I like such as Haring, Pollock, Krassner, Lichtenstein, Basquiat, Warhol and others directly influenced me but rather I found permission in observing them to just do - transfer ink, charcoal, crayons, paint, graphite, water onto surfaces and let the process be my guide. Never do I have an idea or can predict what’s about to happen when pen and paper meet. I could never paint the same thing twice for that same reason. Every piece truly captures that very moment where I may have had the intention to make a coffee but was stopped in my tracks by the sight of an empty page and a marker next to it. The coffee would then be delayed for whatever time it would take until l experience that feeling of joy created by what my eyes just witnessed. This is one of many true occurrences. The satisfaction is unlike any other to me and at this point inescapable.

I am not precious about the surfaces. I use holiday-themed paper pads on clearance—ignoring the printed side and drawing on the clean white backs and 12x12 is an attractive format. I sometimes surrender to the theory it remind me of vinyls. These are just one of many. Whatever I come across that is disqualified from its original purpose, it’s fair game.

I use virtual frames for my gallery. Upon request, I’m happy to recommend a trusted custom framer I work with. All artworks are carefully packaged with acid-free tissue or glassine, reinforced with rigid backing, and shipped in sturdy, padded boxes for safe delivery.
